WOMAN. The Feminist Avant-Garde from the 1970s. Works from the SAMMLUNG VERBUND, Vienna
Festival PHotoEspaña is showing from June 4 till September 1 the feminist focus of the SAMMLUNG VERBUND.

The 15-year old festival PHotoEspaña has invited SAMMLUNG VERBUND to show the feminist focus of its collection this year. Gabriele Schor, director of the SAMMLUNG VERBUND has designated the feminist art movement of the 1970s as “Feminist Avant-Garde”, to underline its pioneering role. She believes that “many of the Feminist Avant-Garde artists and their works are yet to be discovered”. The exhibition MUJER unites 21 female artists who have created a new ‚image of a woman’, studying their own body and grasping the prospect of self-determined feminine identities in a provocative, radical, poetic and ironic manner. Due to Gerardo Mosquera´s invitation the MUJER exhibition is shown for the first time in Spain.
